The Unipart U
"Unipart U's mission is to develop, train and inspire people to achieve World Class performance within UGC companies and amongst its stakeholders."
The Unipart 'U' is the first area seen by any visitor to the group's head office in Oxford. Opened in 1993, the 'U' is an integral part of working life in Unipart - employees enter the 'U' every day on their way to and from work and learn as well as teach in the facility.
"It reflects our intention to train and inspire people to achieve world-class performance within UGC and its stakeholders," said John Neill.
"The Unipart U has become the platform from which we can see the direction for the future. There's a good commercial argument for it; it's a route to competitive advantage and it enhances shareholder value by preventing our people's skills from becoming obsolete."
There are around 200 different courses running throughout the 'U' Facilities which have been developed and are taught by Unipart managers and staff. The courses are designed to be practical so that attendees 'train for work' and can apply 'this morning's learning to this afternoon's job'.
Contributions made by employees at each course enable the company to adapt its working practices and apply continuous learning principles. Courses cover areas such as IT skills, supplier management (TTZ), team management, customer service, problem solving and lean production.
Courses are mainly for employees, but increasingly, other stakeholders of the company such as suppliers and customers attend courses and use the facilities.
